Rudy Farias IV was living in Houston, Texas, with his mom Janie Santana when he vanished in 2015. At the time, he was just 17 years old. Last week, Rudy was found alive, and in a shocking twist, it turns out that Janie, who played the part of a grieving mother, knew where he was all along.
On March 6, 2015, Rudy went out to walk his dogs and never returned. Both dogs eventually found their way back, alone and without their leashes.
Janie claimed that Rudy was struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and suicidal ideation when he disappeared. He had lost his older brother Charlie to a motorcycle accident in 2011 when he was just 11 and in 2014, his father, 51-year-old police officer Rudy Farias III, took his own life.
A search was conducted but Rudy was nowhere to be found — until now.
On June 29, 2023, a good samaritan called the police to report that a man was sleeping on the front steps of a Houston church and that he was unresponsive. He was identified as Rudy Farias IV, now 25 years old.
Rudy reportedly had a credit card belonging to his mother in his pocket and he was also wearing a necklace belonging to his slain brother Charlie.
Janie rushed to the scene, beating the paramedics there. In a surprising move, she refused medical attention for her son, who according to her own statement, had been badly beaten. He was covered in cuts and was bleeding from the head. She eventually took him to the hospital herself.
Janie told reporters that Rudy believed he was a 14-year-old boy named Julio Torres. She claimed he was non-verbal and flinched upon physical touch. Janie said her son had been kidnapped in 2015 and taken to Mexico.
However, multiple relatives and neighbors spoke out immediately after Rudy was “found” alleging they had seen him with Janie several times. The authorities became suspicious not only due to their statements but because of the credit card found in Rudy’s pocket. Janie canceled the card two and a half years ago, yet, somehow, it was found in his possession.
Authorities scheduled an interview with Rudy and Janie at police headquarters. Activist Quanell X was also present and according to him, Rudy refused to speak in front of Janie and appeared to be afraid of her. Janie was eventually taken to a separate room at which point Rudy revealed what really went on these past eight years, and his story is truly haunting.
“I heard horrific things from that young man, and I didn’t want him to see me shedding tears but I couldn’t hold back. No child should ever be treated like that by their own mother,” Activist Quanell X told reporters.
Rudy admitted he initially ran away. When he came back two days later, his mother forced him to hide and told him he would be arrested otherwise. She eventually allowed Rudy to return but locked him in a room when private investigators visited to work on the case. Four different PIs told reporters they believed she was lying about his disappearance back in 2016.
Rudy claimed that his mother took him to her night shift security job and forced him to complete her duties. After some time passed she assumed that people had forgotten about his disappearance, so she allowed him to visit with a select few neighbors but ordered him to use a different name.
Rudy alleged that his mother forced him to ingest hallucinogenic mushrooms and play a game called “Daddy” which entailed severe physical and sexual abuse. He said that she told him he had to “play the husband.”
Rudy told the police he was tired of being a slave so he fled the home and ran to the church where he was ultimately found with multiple injuries.
During Rudy’s “disappearance,” Janie fundraised via Go Fund Me and often typed out letters that she claimed he wrote her, posting them on Facebook. In the letters, Rudy told his mother how much he loved and cared for her. With all this new information coming to light, one can’t help but wonder if the letters were even real, or if Janie made them up to garner sympathy. After Rudy spoke with the police, all of the posts suddenly disappeared.
Rudy has been released from the hospital and is currently staying at a hotel. No charges have been filed as of yet, however, Janie was filmed telling neighbors that the police had threatened to arrest her, and she fled her home after the allegations were made. She is currently on the run.
